A Solid Foundation In Fear
Fear 101: The Basics
by Margee Kerr
Saturday January 13 9:00 AM – 10:00 AM
Understanding Fear is arguably the most important component to designing quality scares. Sociologist and Author Margee Kerr is a thought leader on the psychology of fear and how it applies to the haunted attraction industry. She has been covered in major news outlets such as The Washington Post and The New York Times, as well as industry publications such as Psychology Today.
Kerr’s 2015 book titled “Scream: Chilling Adventures in the Science of Fear” looks at what triggers a fear response…and why. The application of her research and findings has fundamentally influenced scare design at haunted attractions across the country. You can see her analysis and insight put into action at ScareHouse, a top rated haunt in Pennsylvania with whom she consults. We will be on the lookout for more research and writings from this maven.
Pro Quality Detailing
Although this is the first time he has instructed publicly in the world of haunt education, we have been following Timmy O’Neal for a long time. He is a young, entrepreneurial visionary and is well known and respected in the industry. He isn’t afraid to take risks, and is always focused on delivering a unique, top notch experience for guests.
Timmy is also one hell of a practitioner. He is hands on in every aspect of ownership and production. Check out the gallery in this section for just a small sample of his work! His attention to detail is second to none, and we are pumped to get a glimpse into the distressing and carving techniques he will be demonstrating at HAuNTcon!
